The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water says the proposed rules cover streamlined single-project approvals, landscape approvals, operation of the Restoration Contributions Holder and greater transparency across approval pathways.
The National Environmental Protection Agency began operating on 1 July 2026, while four National Environmental Standards were introduced in August. The next major assessment and approval changes are scheduled to start on or before 1 December 2026.
Public feedback on the current regulations is due by 11:59pm AEDT on Tuesday 13 October. Individuals and organisations should review the consultation material on the department’s official website before making a submission.
