Construction has begun on two Bruce Highway upgrade sections near Gairloch, between Ingham and Cardwell, according to a joint Queensland and federal government announcement on 20 October.

The Gairloch-to-Ripple Creek section is planned to include road widening and drainage improvements. A second section around Ingham-Halifax-Bemerside Road and the Cardwell Range is also being widened for safety. The governments say the works are intended to reduce flood-related disruption and the risk of serious crashes, but those outcomes have not yet been measured.

The statement places the two projects within broader Bruce Highway investment from Gympie to Cairns. It does not provide a completion date or current traffic-control timetable for these Gairloch works. Drivers should check official traffic updates before travelling rather than assume the road is closed or unrestricted.
