Cairns City Library will remain open next week, even though its car park will be closed from Monday 12 October to Friday 16 October 2026.

Cairns Regional Council says the temporary closure will allow solar panels to be removed as part of building maintenance and improvement works. Regular library services, programs and facilities are expected to continue during the five-day period.

People driving to the library can use the adjacent Lake Street public car park or nearby on-street spaces. Council advises visitors to allow extra travel time.

The drive-through book-returns chute will also be unavailable during the closure. Items can still be returned inside the library during opening hours, via the chute at the library entrance, at any of Council's other seven library branches, or at the DFO Shopping Centre drop-off point in Westcourt.

The library's closure information page says there may also be short-term impacts to public bathrooms and meeting room access on the morning of Wednesday 14 October. Visitors should check that page for updates before travelling.
