Ten Cairns community organisations are set to receive practical security improvements backed by $250,000 in Australian Government funding.

Cairns Regional Council said the Strengthening Community Safety Grant Program will fund fencing and CCTV systems intended to protect facilities, volunteers and members.

Council received 31 applications through its Go Clubs network and selected 10 organisations. Recipients include sporting clubs and NorthSite Contemporary Arts, with approved projects ranging from fencing to security-camera systems.

Council will manage delivery of the works. The upgrades are intended to deter vandalism and help community groups direct more of their resources to their core activities.
