The taskforce says seven investigations identified approximately $235 million in actual and potential fraud involving Commonwealth payments and programs. That figure includes suspected activity still under investigation; it is not a court finding that $235 million was stolen. The agencies involved include the National Disability Insurance Agency, Services Australia, the Department of Education and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
Investigators executed 26 search warrants over three months in Adelaide, the NSW Central Coast, Melbourne, rural Queensland and Sydney. Authorities allege some providers sought benefits for services that were not delivered or only partly delivered. The allegations remain subject to investigation and court proceedings.
