National Safe Work Month began across Australia on 1 October, with Safe Work Australia encouraging workplaces to make health and safety part of everyday decisions under this year's theme, Safe work is for life.
The campaign highlights that workplace health and safety is not only about preventing immediate incidents. Good systems also protect workers' long-term health, support families and communities, and help people return home safely at the end of each shift.
The first week focuses on why work health and safety matters. Safe Work Australia is asking workplaces to talk with workers about risks, identify at least one practical safety or health improvement, and use the campaign activity kit to support local conversations.
The month-long program will also cover broader health issues, including mental health, with World Mental Health Day taking place on 10 October.
