Queensland has launched Get Ready Queensland Week as the state prepares for bushfire risk and the approaching high-risk weather season. The campaign runs from 5 to 11 October and includes more than 50 council-led events, according to a 6 October government statement.
Officials are urging households to understand their local risks, make an emergency plan and keep a kit stocked for at least three days of isolation. The state has also released an online preparation checklist. For Far North Queensland, the Bureau of Meteorology says October marks the start of the northern wet season and brings a risk of severe thunderstorms.
The bureau's seasonal outlook points to a hotter-than-usual spring and summer, with increased heatwave risk. A seasonal outlook is not a warning that a cyclone is currently approaching Cairns, and local conditions can differ from broad forecasts. Residents should follow current Bureau forecasts and official emergency advice if conditions change.
