Renewable-energy advocates are calling for clearer project-approval rules as the Queensland Government reviews three developments using special ministerial call-in powers.
ABC News reported that the projects are the Bouldercombe Battery Energy Storage System near Rockhampton, Marmadua Energy Park and Middle Creek Energy Hub on the Western Downs. The powers allow the Planning Minister to undertake further assessment where economic and environmental state interests are considered to require it.
The Renewable Energy Alliance says the intervention can increase uncertainty for both regional communities and private investors after projects have entered the approval process.
Queensland Treasurer and Energy Minister David Janetzki said the government remained committed to private-sector renewable investment and was seeking a balance between energy sources, community input and future demand.
