The United States and United Kingdom have completed what officials describe as the first firing of a heavyweight torpedo from an uncrewed underwater vessel.
The trial took place in UK waters and used the 12-metre XV Excalibur test vessel. The torpedo technology was jointly developed by the United States and Australia, placing the demonstration within the wider AUKUS partnership.
The UK government said the test showed how allied technology could be integrated into an autonomous undersea platform. It described the firing as a breakthrough for the three-country security partnership.
