Defence has identified Corporal Brendan Hannam as the Australian Army soldier who died during a training exercise at the Mount Bundey Training Area in the Northern Territory on 5 October.

In an update issued on 6 October, Defence said a single-vehicle rollover occurred during training. Five other soldiers were injured. Two remained in a Darwin hospital in stable condition, while three were being monitored and supported at Robertson Barracks Health Centre, according to the statement.

Corporal Hannam served with the 5th/7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. Defence said he had served on Operation Highroad in Afghanistan and Operation Kudu in the United Kingdom. It asked that the privacy of his family and other Defence members be respected.

Defence said its priority was supporting the family and everyone involved. No further circumstances should be inferred from the information released so far.
