The November–December trials are for eligible Indian nationals with e-passports travelling on select international Air India and IndiGo flights. The facility will be available at enabled terminal entry points, security hold areas and boarding gates where the required equipment is installed.
To participate, eligible passengers must create an e-passport-based credential in the Digi Yatra app. The ministry says the process involves reading the passport chip with a compatible phone and verifying a selfie. The credential is stored in the passenger’s wallet on the device.
The trial does not replace passports, airline document checks or immigration procedures. Passenger feedback will inform plans for a wider rollout in 2027. Travellers should check eligibility and availability for their flight before relying on the trial.
