A $3.8 million package of visitor and safety upgrades at Kennett River on Victoria's Great Ocean Road has been completed ahead of the busy summer tourism season.

The project includes refreshed public spaces, landscaping, walking paths, a new public toilet block and improved parking. Government officials say the design was informed by consultation with local residents and aims to support visitation that is appropriate for the small coastal town.

The work forms part of a wider $676 million investment by different levels of government in the Great Ocean Road region. Other projects include redevelopment work at Apollo Bay Harbour, Point Grey in Lorne and the Twelve Apostles visitor precinct.

Kennett River is a popular stop along the coastal route, and the completed works are intended to improve access and amenity for both residents and visitors while supporting local tourism businesses.
