Punjab Police say two men have been arrested in Pathankot in connection with an alleged targeted-killing plot linked to a foreign-based handler.
The state Counter Intelligence Wing identified the arrested men as residents of Batala and Gurdaspur districts. Police allege that they had recently returned from Dubai and were preparing to carry out an assigned attack.
Officers said they recovered two .30-bore pistols and 10 live cartridges and impounded a motorcycle without a registration number. These claims form part of the police’s preliminary account and have not been tested in court.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said investigators were examining the alleged overseas link and the intended target. Authorities had not publicly disclosed all details of the investigation at the time of the announcement.
The arrested individuals are entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty through the judicial process.
