Queensland authorities have begun destroying the first batch of illegal high-powered e-bikes and e-scooters confiscated under enforcement changes that took effect on 1 July.
The Queensland Government said police had seized 466 illegal devices and issued 2,142 traffic infringement notices between 1 July and 15 September. The figures cover devices that do not comply with legal power, speed or operating requirements.
Seized devices are being taken to a specialist facility for destruction. Batteries, metals and other components will be recycled where practicable, according to the government statement.
