Bega Group says a new refrigerated distribution centre planned for Edmonton in Cairns is expected to expand milk storage for Far North Queensland. In an interview reported by ABC Far North on 27 October, chief executive Peter Findlay said the company had agreed to use the site for 10 years. The ABC reported that the planned facility would hold about 50 per cent more milk than Bega’s current Malanda storage site.
The centre is expected to be built next year. Bega says additional cold storage could help manage seasonal surpluses and supply disruptions during floods or severe weather. The facility is planned and is not yet operating.
