Cairns Surf Life Saving Club has been awarded almost $500,000 in Queensland Government funding for a new training room and purpose-built storage area at Palm Cove.
The state said the room is intended for coaching, athlete development, officiating, volunteer training and club education. The storage area will house surf lifesaving equipment. The announcement did not specify when construction will start or finish.
The grant is part of the second round of the Games On! Grassroots Infrastructure Program. According to the government, 72 clubs across Queensland will share $30 million in this round. Club president Anthony Hannan said the facilities are used by schools, sporting groups and other community organisations as well as the club.
